If humans were so innocent would there be the threat of nuclear destruction. I have yet to see a tortoise (or any other animal for that matter) playing with uranium , except Homo sapiens. The way I look at it we have it coming, we have been exploiting and destroying Earth for way too long. Which other creature fouls it's own nest?

: I will probably get flamed all over the place, but here goes. I love animals, and I have to say I prefer their company to many people I know. And while I can understand someone's anger over the destruction of habitat or the possiblity of nuclear war annhilating tortoises, I am seriously shocked by the lack of compassion for human life, and the placing of an animal's life over a fellow human. I believe that this indicates a dysfunction in a person's ability to relate to others, probably brought on by abuse or neglect in said person's life. An animal which, while tremendously fascinating, does not register empathy with a human being on any level is deserving of respect, care, study, etc. But it is never more deserving of life than an innocent human being. I agree with Ed. This is sick.
