Overfeeding or feeding the wrong foods and lack of exercise and natural sunlight can all lead to pyramiding.
Case in point.
My small sulcata used to spend everyday outdoors, grazing on grasses etc and getting loads of exercise. He was growing very slowly and very nicely.
Due to injury (dog attack)he was kept indoors for a couple of months.
He wasn't getting nearly as much exercise, natural sunlight or graze, he was fed a lot more grocery greens.
During this time indoors, he grew very fast , turned much darker and started to pyramid.
I'm shocked at the difference in growth.
He's back outdoors now
(back to a grazing diet, supplemented with hibiscus and no store bought greens)and I'm hoping that he'll go back to the slower, smoother growth.
