Hi
I have had great success feeding young galops with just yard forage. This is your best bet. all the weeds and grasses in your yard or neighbors yard (get permission and make sure there is no weed killers, fertilizers or bug spray) plus flowers and cactus and succulents will all you will need besides lots of room, real sunshine(I don't trust U.V. bulbs) and calcium/ vitamin supplements. If your babies are getting the proper sun, don't use calcium with vitamin d3 added.
I also tried some of the mazouri tortoise diet and the guys loved it but it looks and smells like monkey biscuits to me and I don't trust it. I only feed it in emergencies when I don't have time to collect weeds and grasses.
Tortoises will get spoiled when fed a hi amount of a favorite food a lot. It is very easy to cure although it takes a little will power. Put the food down you want them to eat. If they don't want it, take it away and try again the next day. Eventualy they will chew a hole through your hand to get anything you offer them! This method also works well with all other animals and kids too(LOL)! On the Galapagos islands where they breed them, the babies are only fed every other day to avoid obesity which causes a higher mortality rate in the hatchlings.
When they are older, You can let them roam on ther own in the yard as long as you have made it a safe enviroment from predators, thieves, etc.
Good luck
