Redfoots are reported to have very outgoing personalities and aren't too hard to take care of if you can provide good housing.
Redfoots are omnivores to some extent, but from what I've read they should be mostly herbivores with just a little animal protein once a week.
I'd say the biggest problem with a redfoot would be providing a consistently warm and humid enclosure for a tortoise that gets over 12" long.
People do it, but I think it would be harder than keeping a box turtle. A box turtle requires less space and can cope with the standard seasonal changes that occurs in a house in temperate regions.
If you can provide the space and the proper environment, then a redfoot could be a good tortoise pet.
