Red foot tortoise substrate and heat light ?'s

Hi, I do not have one yet, but am looking into gettiong a red foot. Could I use sod, like you get at home and garden centers as the substrate? It seems to me that the tortoises would like to eat it and that it would help the humidity. Any thoughts on this? The other question is wither or not a T-rex avtive uv heat bulb would be good for them. Also, I have read some care sheets, but can not find the exact temp, for either the cool side or the hot side.
