We have Greek hatchlings, too! They hatched starting New Year's eve 2001. They are about 4 months old now. We just had another one hatch last week. Our female has been doing alot of egg laying!
At first we used the reptile alfalfa bedding they sell in the pet stores. My husband just recently read that the alfalfa pellets are not too good for the torts as they can create dust which may make or aggrevate
a respitory infection. So we changed it all out last weekend to a mixture of soil (we bought Supersoil) and play sand (which is sterilized and sifted). I guess that would be more natural for them. We also put
some timothy hay in there for them to "tuck" into.
As far as feeding; we give them everything the adults get, except chopped alittle smaller. Dandelion greens, squash, flowers (gazanias, geraniums, roses), cactus pads- the usual stuff. We very rarely give fruit to
any of our tortoises. Sometimes as a treat we give one strawberry or a bite of cantaloupe, but not very often. We have not given the babies any fruit. We dust their plates with a mixture of Reptical and Herpivite.
We have them (all 7) housed together right now as they are still all small, although there are a couple that are bigger than others. We watch to make sure the little guys are getting their fair share of food. They
seem to be doing well and eat very well.
We love our little hatchlings! We also have 2 adult Leopards, 2 adult Greeks (the parents), 2 California Desert Tortoises, 5 adult Box Turtles and 16 juvenile box turtles.
