Best Tortoise/Turtle for a beginer

I am looking into getting a tortoise or turtle. I would like the oppion of the people at this forum as to which species would be best for me. I am looking for a smaller animal that could live in a medium sized indoor cage. And most of all it would need to be rather easy to care for since I am new at this.
