: : I found another Petco near my house that has 5, 10" leopards that all appear to be in good health. I was allowed to handle them with a caring lady who was the store manager. I found no runny noses, no ticks, no sunken eyes, no open mouth breathing, and all felt fairly heavy.
: : My only concern was that they did not have enough room or hiding spots. I need another opinion on what I'm considering. I have the room, and the money to take in 2 of these poor creatures. Like I said, they appear to be in good health but I'm sure they'd have to be dewormed...etc. I'm not vet, but I can take care of the minor problems that might incur.
: : Should I take these animals in even though they are wild caught? My main concern is to make sure they have a good home with a capable owner. The care sheet says they can live in a 20 gallon long (yeah right), and eat "fruits & veggies" (to an extent). I'm worried that someone will buy one of these handsome creatures as an impulse buy and they end up dead by summer.
: : I need an angel on my shoulder to help me out here guys.... please email or post. I don't care which. ...... Thanks

: I look at it this way. At the end of the day, they are going to go to someone. Would I rather see that someone be a average household that may or may not take proper care of the animal, or would I rather see somelike like you take them in and care for them. The answer should be obvious. I would still reccomend buying from a breeder, but then again, I have purchased animals from pet stores for the same reasons!

I agree. It would be more humane for the torts to be in a home where they will be taken care of than in the pet shop. I would talk to the caring lady and explain the reasons you are buying and suggest not ordering any more. I am breeding russians because captive born is better. But all that was available 5 years ago were wild caught. They were in poor shape and cost alot at the vet, but they have had great care and are thriving. A local pet shop has 1 thats in decent shape. I'll probably buy it. Its been there for about 6 weeks and is living on brocolli. When I get it I'll use the same approach and request they don't order any more. It may help or not but I cant watch it in its 20 gal any more.
