I agree w/ all of Terry's comments, but also add that caring for a sick turtle can be very difficult. We found an injured box turtle a number of years ago just walking down our street. It's leg was all swollen, it walked with a limp, and it was unable to retract the leg at all. We took it to the vet in hopes of helping the poor thing and spent lots of time, and $$$ (this even with the break the vet was giving us for helping a wild animal) before taking the vet's suggestion that we could give it to a rehabilitator. I didn't mind taking care of it. Didn't even mind the money too much (though there were limits), but I wasn't qualified to force feed a very sick box turtle, and I hated giving it injections. We were smart enough to figure this out early on and gave it up to someone who was far more skilled in this area. The point is, do what you can for it, but know when it would be better off with an expert.
