I was considering one of the smaller, commonly captive bred species, such as a Greek, Hermann’s, or possibly even Russian. Only CB though. I’ve heard that Hermann’s are thought to be more susceptible to pyramiding than the other two, but otherwise a bit easier to keep.
Don’t get me wrong: my intent is to feed the animal a diet composed primarily of leaf greens, flowers, etc. with the occasional slice of vegetable. I was just curious if re-hydrated hay (grass hay) was a food option for variety during the cold winter months.
Thanks.
: It will depend on the species of tortoise.
: Many aren't big grass eaters/grazers. Not only would they not eat the hay, but their system wont handle such a fibrous diet.
: Even with grazers like sulcatas,(which ned fiber) I wouldn't feed Alphalfa pellets, too high in protein.
: Infact I wouldn't feed rabbit type pellets at all. Hay is fine such as bermuda grass hay and orchard hay, for those species that will eat it. But I'd stay away from feeding the pellets.
: What species were you thinking of getting?
