: : I hope I'm not beating the subject to death, but I need advice/opinions. I was worried when my Petco got their huge shipment of WC leopard torts. I thought that since they were selling them for $219 the people who got them would be more willing to "protect their investment" and take them to the vet and care for them properly. I have been wanting a Leopard but am not sure if I live in a warm/dry enough area for long term. I've been avoiding Petco so I wouldn't be tempted, but one of my friends mentioned that none have sold and now the price has changed to $75. What can/should I do?
: Well one thing you can always do is try to educate the workers on cb vs. wc. Then if your REAL lucky they won't get anymore wc. You will definetly need some vet care for worming etc so you might want to save your $$$ for that. Even if they show no outward signs of illness they could still have many probs like stress. I do know that there are many successful breeders of cb leopards that need good homes too. Its a tough choice. That's why I don't go to petstores very often and when I do I usually end up giving the owners care sheets with highlighted info. Good luck and please let us know if we can help if you decide to get one. I was just in vegas this weekend and saw about 8-10 leopards up to 8" length for 80 dollars but I resisted the temptation-It's tough! Rachel K.
Have you considered checking out breeders on the net and ordering one instead? I know that LLLreptile currently has Leopards in stock. Their web site is: http://www.lllreptile.com/
I just saw their Leos last week when I was in the store. The store is VERY clean and the conditions and the animals looked very good.
Another place here in California that has Leos on sale is Reptile Depot. Their web site is: http://www.reptiledepot.com/
I have purchased from them before and had very good results. I would think that both of these options would be better than buying from Petco.
Cheers.
