Tortoises store water in their bladders. When startled they release this water to allow the most possible space to tuck limbs and head inwards. In arid countries where tortoises live, native peoples pick up tortoises to catch and drink this water when no other sources of liquid water are available.
: Hi, i was wondering if there is a scientifical explanation on why my baby sulcata always "pees" when picked up by not only me but anyone who picks him up. Is it because hes scared and uses it as a self-defense? or is it because there is somthing wrong, maybe i just shouldn't handle him? Thanks in advance for any replys
