Chanel, who was the bloom of hatchling health, was constantly cuddled from early babyhood. He consequently trusts me with just about anything, even to the point of taking med pills directly from my hand and taking meds from a needleless syringe. The vet usually "tubes" torts for certain meds, and he did that for one dose for Chanel. A huge tube went down his throat several inches into his gut, and Chanel hated it - the vet said it was the only way to get him to take the meds. I took Chanel, held him for 2 minutes to calm him after this awful ordeal, and then took the meds in a syringe and offered it to him, babytalking to him all the time. Chanel went right up to the syringe and voluntarily drank down every drop, to the vet's amazement "you have an incredible relationship with your tortoise" etc.
Chanel is potty trained, and very social.
Albrecht got held a lot less, due to his initial delicate health condition, and I notice an obvious difference in his social/human relations. Chanel is more attention oriented towards humans, and Albrecht is more "food-oriented" to people and looks less for companionship. I wish I could have cuddled him more as a baby, but he was so sick that until he got well, a lot of unnecessary handling was dangerous, at least according to the vet.
