It depends on how they react to me. I have RES, Boxies, Woods, Hermans, and Russians. Each one is different. Some are friendlier than others. If they come to me then I pick them up, examine them, and maybe give them some food. One of my boxies is downright friendly and if you sit on the ground she will come say hello and you can scratch her and pick her up. My russians come running to see what they get today and don't seem to mind being scratched and played with and sometimes they follow me. My male Wood turt is not afraid at all and I can pick him up without a problem, but the female does not like to be held. The RESs don't like it, and the Hermans tolerate some handling and examination for a few minutes and then they want to get down.
