: : Looking for any info. on the care and breeding of russian tortoises. How easy are they to breed, and what is a good captive diet.
: : Thanks,
: : Steve
: Steve,
: I have had Russian tortoises for about 4 years. I keep the adults outside all year.
: In South Carolina the winters are mild, but I give them a heated enclosure (4'x2').
: Their pen is 10'x8' and is shaded by some large trees. There are always some spots during
: the day that get direct sun. In november of 96 the female laid 2 eggs. Yesterday she
: laid another. They mate frequently. This year they are more active and putting on more
: growth than last year. The only change is I have a better supply of weeds to feed them!
: I've let a part of the yard "go wild". Hope this helps!
