They are very destructive, in the most loving kind of way. While mine were indoors in NYC and in Va, Chanel (25lbs) has gouged large niches in the sheet-rocked walls. He has ripped the moulding off of the basement walls. They can push their weight around all day - they are very determined and will eventually knock over very large things just because they are single-mindedly dedicated to whatever their purpose may be. They do enormous poops, like very large doggie sized poops. They are sweet hearts, but can be truly tough if you are not prepared for the eventuality of their size. The VERY best thing to do before you get a sulcata is to go to the Turtle Homes website. There is a link to a page called "Sulcata reality check." This is the most educational and useful quickie tool to determine if you are ready to make this lifelong committment. But you are doing great to ask these questions before you fall in love and purchase one of these precious hatchlings. You need to be ready to alter your whole life to a point in order to properly care for these wonderful guys. If you find that it may be a little much to live with for the rest of your days (and beyond - they WILL outlive you), there are plenty of other lovely tortoises that hunger for adoption into a loving family! Have fun!
