: We bought this little turtle in Flordia in November 2001
: and brought him home to West Virginia. His shell is about
: 1 1/2 inch from head to tell. He has not grown alot but a
: little bit just here recently.
: My son says he is a slider, now slider what I dont know. But his shell just got real soft yesterday, so we took him out of his aquarium and put him in a small dry tank tonight.
: He isnt moving around much at all, he is sticking his head out of his shell and looks around, but mostly has his eyes shut.
: We bought him for my sons girlfriend and she loves this little
: guy alot. My neighbor has turtles and says there is no vet around here that knows anything about turtles or thinks you
: should have one as a pet, She told me tonight she thinks Buster
: may be dying.
: Please tell me what I can do that will help Buster to live, thrive and have great long life?
: I appreciate any help.

there are a number of people there who can help you. They will want to know about your set-up, lighting, food, water temperature, etc. The more details you can provide the better. Explain that you don't have access to a reptile vet. Keep in mind that sliders are water turtles so make sure he has a bit of water to get down in to. A plastic shoe box with one end elevated will work as long as he can't get out. I have 3, but have never had a problem with a soft shell. Good luck.
