In Reply to: How can i tell if my baby sulcata is male or female? posted by Jason on April 18, 2002 at 10:16:08:
You won't be able to tell for quite a few more years. :( ... I don't have a sulcata, but I do have a leopard. I don't know if it's the same, but to sex a leopard: I have a care sheet at home that describes the males as having a longer tail than the females. Also the males have a V shape (the prong things by the tail) as opposed to the more rounded shape of the females (like a U shape) But you have to wait until they're a pretty good size to see the formation of the shell properly as it may change slightly while growing so rapidly from a hatchling to an adolescent turtle. I think I've also heard that a boys "vent" or hole in the tail is farther up than the females' hole..
I really don't know if this is correct. I'm sure others on this forum can help you out more that I can... I just know you can't sex him/her yet!
: Hi i wanted to know if my 2 or so month old tortoise is a male or female...it would be helpful if you could tell me the indications because i can't get in touch with the pet store i bought it from.
