I suggest 100 or better for a hot spot for sulcatas. My guys sit directly under a 100w Active UV heat bulb first thing in the morning. The surface is no more than 4 inches away from its shell. (IN NO WAY AM I RECOMENDING YOU DO THIS.)(The little guy, who is not so little has grown into this and this situation is going to be changed soon.) The point is that it is hot. Easily over 100. Once he has his morning warmup you will not see him under the bulb again for the rest of the day except when he cruises under it. The background room temperature is 75 to 80 so that's the cool end. Water is available all the time buy way of this neat little waterer that you can get from Turtle homes for a small donation. They work fantastic. I have to refill it every 3 days. That's for 2 5 to 8 inch sulcatas. The 2 things you mention here a pet ideas of mine. I believe that heat and hydration are at the top of the list and the most important items of the items effecting proper growth.
