Hi J.A.,
I've had redfoot torts. I also had a litle young who had a serious injure by a dog. He had lost lots of blood too. He was about 2 inches long at that time. I had redfoot shipped from very far, it was cold and they made it to me very well. They started eating soon after they got warmed up. They are usually hardy and do well if correctly kept. I would worry if I was you and took himn to the vet asap.
I wouldn't worry for the fact he dosen't eat. Sometimes tortoises just don't want to have food when they are stressed. I had a group of pardalis that didn't want to eat for more than one weeks when I firstly got them but suddenly they started and grew very fast. i would worry for teh fact of the head you have described. This means that he is really weack and need some treatment to keep him alive. Don't wait anymore. It could be some kind of virus or bacterial infection usually due to the overcrouded condition they are kept in stores. If it is a virus all you can do is keep him in the proper condition helping him and force feeding him if necessary. The fact he doesn't want food is a simptom not the cause of the problem. Hope you can can understand my english. If it is a bacterial infection you can treat him with baytil 5ml/kg (this is the dose I always use, but I'm not a vet, so before acting call a vet!). Force feed him just to keep him alive and to give him enough power to withstand this bed period. I use children food (it is a kind of fuit purea, don't know the english name, sorry).
Hope you find this useful.
Let me know,
Sam.
