I have one hundred tortoise and from what i can see it depends of what you have inside the enclosure where you keep your tortoises. If there is nothing on the floor (someone keeps tortoises on a paved floor) they might stay ther for days! If you keep more then one tortoise together it will not be a problem since sooner or later oneother tortoise will pass by the one on its back and it will find the way to turn on the right position (sorry for the langauge! it's not mine ;> ).
I would put my attention on the things inside the enclosure. A little bit of tall grass, pieces of wood and rocks is the best way to avoid any problem.
