Esther it wasn't huge, maybe half an acre.
But she doesn't have any huge tortoises.
The largest are the leopards and she only has one of them, given to her when the previous owner left the Island.
A high block wall goes all the way around her yard, completely around it.
So she can use the back , front and both sides of the yard.
She also has a variety of birds, macaws, conures, cockatoos. As do many people in Hawaii,(I ued to breed, macaws , cockatoos, ring necks and love birds in Hawaii) once again the climate is perfect for outdoor flight cages.
What really makes it possible is Hawaiis climate,
on the dryer side of the Island it's perfect for just about any species. The mulberry tree is green all year round, hibiscus bloom year round, the grass stays lush. So growing food is also easy.
For more humid species, more plantings and trees, and a mister system.
For more arid species, less shade trees, in Hawaii it's so easy to set up torts/turts.
In Hawaii, I had the sulcata area around one side and the back of my house, a large box turtle enclosure also in the back yard. Not huge, around 40'x30', but a good size for a small group of boxies.C, galbinifrons around the other side of the house, and Russian torts out front.
The lady I rehomed my box turtle colonly and Russian torts to, has a similar set up.
Her yard is also divided up into wonderful large habitats for a variety of species.
Okay, now I'm getting homesick for Hawaii, shame real estate is sooooo expensive on Oahu :(
