Let's face it people who don't form attachments to pets, or other people for that matter, can't understand. But I've found the worst offenders can be the "dog person." To them only dogs are worthy of affection. Once when our B'Early Bird (cockatiel) was very ill I had someone say, "At least it's only a bird." The same goes with my Tofu. No she's not cuddly. I can't hold her in my lap (well, I could if I didn't care about circulation in my legs.) and she doesn't talk like my birds, or purr like the cats, but I love her (sorry for the mush) just like my other pets. Of course this is one reason I joined this group. You guys understand when I say watching her walk around can be therapeutic for me. And I never fail to be fascinated when she eats. Sometimes when my husband really makes me mad, and after 18 years he can do that, I go outside and sit and watch Tofu walk around, eat, and test the structural integrity of the fence. It always makes me feel better. If I go into the pen, she runs towards me, hoping for food, yes, trying to ram me, yes sometimes, but still....you know what I mean.
