My sister's Greek, Tutti, was discovered to need a name change to Marvin after a similar display. Guy greek tortoises do this sort of thing; it is normal and you will pay out a lot of money to vets and worry needlessly "trying to correct" it. You say he always manages to put it away after a certain amount of time, right? Then he's probably fine, he's just displaying his character. My guys do this when they are happy (feed Albrecht a small piece of strawberry and he "fans" for 1/2 hour, dragging it around the yard; Chanel takes a warm soak and will fan in luxuriating pleasure in his bath); they almost always do it when they are urinating and defecates. Tutti/Marvin, the Greek, likes to display himself when he is on smooth tile. . . I was totally shocked, worried and paranoid when Chanel first began this behavior, at the tender age of two, and consulted vets about it. They assured me that it was normal, and not to be upset. Congratulations! You just have a very macho tortoise!
