Good to hear that they are drinking. Are these adult torts? If they are, they WILL need to be de wormed!! Please take my word for it. The best way to go about it cheaply is to bring a fresh stool sample ( or if needed you can refridgerate it in a zip lock baggie.) to your vet and ask them to do a fecal float to check for worms - most likely it will test positive. Ask the vet to give you enough panacur/flagyl mix for the weight of each of your torts. It's easy to give. Just put the dose on/in a favorite fruit. (my guys love boiled sweet potato!) they should be given 3 doses at one week intervals.
Many tortoise keepers regularly de worm their torts at least once a year. Others in spring and fall. It's quite possible that your torts will start eating well and thrive for months but if they are loaded with worms it can kill them as well as lower their suseptability to other illnesses. A fecal float should cost about $15.00. Meds should be about $25.00. More if you bring in the tort to the vet for a check up, but that's usually not necessary. Hope this helps. Erich
she's been drinking and has been active, just hasn't eaten much. she has eaten but just not in a few days. I just got her and a male so i dont know when she was last treated, but where i got her from they said she had been doing well, and breeding with the male. so i think she's fine, i'm just worrying too much.i have a picture of her in the photo gallery, my username is pete743, just in case you want to see her. she looks fine. i also heard that when they dont eat it can be that they have eggs. and she had been breeding in florida where i got here from, so do you think that is a possibiltiy?
