: I read the post a few days back on active UV and I am intrigued. For those who have used it, how long (in hours) is the bulb garunteed to last? For heat I have been using a heat lamp from GE that only costs $3 at Wal-mart, but it's 250 watts and it sucks the electricity making my bill high. Im looking for an alternative, but $52.00 dollars for a lamp seems a little steep. According to the testimonials it's worth it though. If 52.00 is gonna last a couple years using it 10 hours a day, great. If it's only gonna last a few months then it's not cost effective, any info on how long they last would be appreciated.
: Thanks

to go with the GE heat lamp? I don't think there's any UVB in that. If not, that's where your expense will come in. UVB fluorescent tubes cost about $25 and run out of juice in about 6 months. The benefit of the Active UV or Powersun is that you only have one bulb for both UVA/UVB and heat and they are supposed to last a year. So the cost ends up being a little bit less overall and you only have to deal with one fixture. Many on the forum swear by them. I have an Active UV on my red-eared sliders and a new PowerSun on Virgil (sulcata). Both appear to work equally well and I love not having to mess with multiple fixtures and plug-ins. My electric bill is never very high, so I don't think they are power hogs. Both of mine are on for 12+ hours a day. By the way, does the GE heat bulb mention anything about full-spectrum UVA rays on it?
