Poor thing, looks like he really got chewed up.
Hoku has that one area on the side of his carapace where the shell is missing.
He has an area on his plastron (up infront of his leg, by the gular scutes)that's messed up, kind of seperated.
Then he has some puncture marks on his plastron and carapace.
But my vet has done a wonderful job of treating all the wounds and Hoku should look reasonably normal as he grows.
That one area where his shell is missing is filling in nicely with new growth.
Scutes should regenerate within about a year.
I'm glad that Choo Choo survived being abandoned and attacked and that he's now found a great home.
Is Choo Choo still seeing a vet for his injuries. The glued area, will that be removed at some point?
Hoku has a piece of gauze covering the area where his shell is missing.
The gauze is kept in place (covered) with a type of transparent glue (solid when dry). You can see the gauze through the glue stuff.
The vet just pops it off, using a dental pick I believe. checks and cleans it, then patches it up again, pretty neat.
I got to see it when he took the patch off today. And couldn't believe the new growth, amazing.
Okay, I'm rambling again!
