In Reply to: Leopard slowing down... winter? posted by Joshua on January 14, 2002 at 09:18:23:
She's in a 2.5 X 7 foot setup, fairly enclosed on one end and fairly open on the other.. I use a pertable electric heater in her pen (on a thermostat and mounted well out of her reach) to keep the air temp in the warm end about 80-82 degrees... under her baskign light it's about 90-95 and she uses it regularly while it's on (daytime). as the pen approaches the cooler end, the walls drop down and air from the foom flows through... so it's probably about 73 in the cool end. She usually hangs out in the warm end, comes to the middle to eat and drink, and every now and again I'll see her on the cool end. She also has an 18" UV light in the middle. I've only been able to get her to eat lettuces, so I buy different kinds and dust them once a week when i feed her. She has lettuce avalable every day, though liek I said hasn't ate much recently.
Also, please comment on her "back end" as i asked in the original post... i just want to make sure that's OK and not related to her not eating.
Also. thanks for the replies so far... I'm at least a littler more comfortable about it now.
: My 7 inch leopard I've had for about 4-5 months now has slowed considerabley in her eating in the last 2-3 weeks... She used to migrate out of her hiding area for food about 5 times per week... lately she's only been doing this baout once a week.... and now I don't think she's been out in over a week. I do pick her up and soak her once a week because I'm concerned she's not drinking enough if she never comes out to the feeding area. Is it winter that's causing this or could it be something else.
: I've never kept tortoises before her so I know little about them.. She also seems to always have stuff caked to her tail... is this normal? I clean it off witha toothbrush once a week when i soak her, but it's always right back the next week. IS that normal for them, or is that something to be concerned with? She "goes" all the time, though it's never been really solid... usualyl messy and cakes to her...
: any advice would be appreciated.
: thanks
