: : Does anyone have any suggestions about a smaller tortoise that could be housed indoors part of the year?
: : A couple that have come to mind are Russians and Bell's hingebacks
: If you have the money to afford them I would STRONGLY recommend either a captive bred and born Pancake tortoise or Egyptian Dwarf (Testudo kleinmanni). Both stay small, can be kept indoors year round and have GREAT personalities. Plus they are VERY active tortoises.

: p.s.- I had a baby Pancake hatch about three weeks ago and let me tell you... They are GREAT! (sorry, not for sale). The egg went 6 months and 5 days duration!!! I gave up on it a month before it hatched, and it proved me wrong! Way cool. :)
