The help is needed!
Problem with c.b. star tortoises babies (Geochelone elegans) caused by visceral podagra & dark liver.
After the long term keeping of c.b. star tortoises we have anticipated the several problems indicated as visceral podagra & dark liver.
Keeping conditions:
The duration of day – 10 hours, Day temperature – 27oC( 80,6Fo), night temperature- 22oC (71,6Fo), temperature in a basking place – 32oC(89,6Fo), humidity – 30%. Basic diet: salad, carrot, pumpkin, cauliflower, apples, hay, )in small quantity; also some (a little) parsley, celery, tomato, sweet pepper.
Notes: We keep all tortoises small groups (4-6 species) in plastic boxes 680x420 mm without any soil. The plastic shelters are provided on a regular base. Also we practice the soaking of tortoises in shallow water with regidron. Any help concerning this matter should be highly appreciated.
