Good questions..I don't know how hard it is, but our Russians bred last year. The key elements of course are a healthy pair of adult Russians. Our female was about 6 1/2 inches long and weighed about 1100 g when she laid eggs. We hibernated them for 3 months, and put the male and female together after about a couple weeks of re-adjustment time. They were indoors then, since it was still cold outside. I don't know when they first mated, but suspect it soon, since the male is very focused and determined.
Good luck. Hopefully more people will breed them and reduce the number of imports.
