Russians are prone to shell problems. The quikest way to tell if its rot is the smell. I lost a prize female this way ...the smell was awfull. Some of the flaking could be a fungal infection. The "secret " to preventing shell problems is to keep the substrate bone dry. Russians normally get their water from their food. I soak mine 1x a week for 20-30 minutes. If they can dry out afterwards ...no problem. If you suspect rot see a vet immediately!!
