General rule of thumb I use is 10 times the length of the animal long and 5 times the length of the animal wide and 2 times the length of the animal high for an adult turtle for starters. Of course the more space you can give the better.
I really don't think you are rescueing the turtle from turtle homes but are adopting it. Rescuing the turtle/tortoise implys it is in a bad place to begin with. I don't think Lori would appreciate that. Semantics I know.
