The sad thing about Petco is that they have a horses**t trasining program for their reptile/small animal associates. It's very rare to go into a store and find anyone with more than a vague clue as to how to keep the animals. Reptiles are usually kept in inappropriate environments (and this is because the habitats provided by Petco are the most horrendously unsuitable things for reptiles I have seen in a while-- no way to set up a basking light, central heating so it's always the same temp everywhere, and far from escape proof).
I work at one such tore, and I am fortunate enough to have excellent reptile knowledge-- which makes it all the more frustrating when I have to snetence yet another lizard to death because of no temp gradient, or when we get in totally unsuitable animals like Leopard tortoises (and ours did not arrive in such good shape).
Perhaps it's time to find a new job... one good thing is I managed to get away with deleting green iguanas from my store.
Be wary of PEtco leopard torts!
