Any artificial UVB source that is normally available in the reptile does not put out enough UV to present a danger so output is not a concern. The Wattage is a measure of power that will produce heat, which is a concern. I use 100w Active UV heat flood type bulbs (a very good source of UVB) as low as 10 inches from the surface of the substrate in a 2 x 4 foot enclosure. I always recomend a temperature range of 80 to 100F for leopards, sulcatas and desert species and 75 to 90 F generally. This is what should determine the wattage.
