For torts that require low humidity, don't use moss.
It retains moisture and that is why your boxies love
it, they need high humidity. Sulcatas and leopards
would not handle it well, and they don't do well
if kept damp or moist for long periods. If you don't
keep the moss moist, of course, it will die, and
then it becomes a dusty mess, also undesireable.
If you had a redfoot, I would recommend the moss,
as they like humidity too, but not for sulcatas
or leopards.
Luck,
Nate
: Hey there!
: "Is it ok to use moss in a hatchlings enclosure?"
: I've been looking for an answer to this simple question for a little while now. Being that I can't find the answer in any book or site I've looked at, I'm asuming it's "No", but I thought I'd check here just to make sure. I haven't seen anywhere that warns of putting moss in an enclosure. I know it can be eaten, but is that harmful to a hatchling? I have Sulcatas & Leopards and before I use it, I just want to be sure. My box turtles love to hide in it!
: Cheers.
