Thank you, Jake and Niki. To answer your questions, Jake:
: A small kiddie pool is a good choice but there are a number of import questions I have that need to be answered:
: What is the outside environment like where you live? Where will you place the pen? Inside? Outside?
K: The pen will be indoor. I live in Midwest and the place that I might move to next year will also be in midwest so I will have to commit and accept that the tortoise will be an indoor one in colder months.
Do you have a dog, cat, or any other animal (including small children) that can possibly do harm to your baby sulcata?
K: I have a parrot and yound children but they are well taught to not to bother our pets. They are very gentle.
: I assume the baby is less than a year. I also assume that you live in a place that gets cold (less than 60 F degrees) in the winter. To give you a good detailed answer I need to know the answers to the above questions. As with all living things, we need to give them what they need, the proper amounts of warmth, water, food, and protection from predators. I must emphasize than the word "proper" includes "not too little" and "not too much". I would be happy to help you, but without the answers to the above questions, all I can suggest is that you read a lot about them and follow the care sheets that you may find on the subject.
K: Yes, the winter will be cold. We now live in a duplex but should be moving to a house so room is not a problem. Even now we have enough room for the baby to roam.
: Jake
Too bad Aldabra is too expensive or I would have gotten one.....perhaps in the future. One more questions, is it OK to NOT let the sulcatas dig? Even if I move it outside in the summer, I don't want it to dig the yard. Is it OK to make the outdoor pen with concrete floor?
Thank you!
K
