I don't know where you live, but have you contacted your local humane society or animal shelter to let them know you'll adopt tortoises? Some of the larger city shelters do get them infrequently. They usually require a home inspection before placement.

: I've posted many ads and offers on the classifieds and forums offering to adopt larger sulcata's, but no takers. Everyone wants to sell theirs. If there is soo many, then why hasn't anyone stepped up to the table that wants to find a GOOD home? I have 20 avocado trees, large patio, grassy yard with also LOTS of dirt, enclosed, etc.... Tortoise paradise, yet no offers but I read this about this sulcata explosion... I'm a bit skeptical....
