I was recently contacted by someone regarding their Russian tortoise they adopted from us earlier this summer. They are attempting to hibernate him, but he just won't go down. They stopped feeding two weeks prior to trying. He has been placed in a box with shredded paper, and placed in a back room closet that stays approximately 50 degree F. For a week, they heard him scratching in the box everytime they checked. Then, they placed him (still in his box) in the garage where it stays around 40 degrees F. For three days, he continues to move around in the box. Since they anticipated him hibernating for a few months, they have put his cage in storage so they can rearrange. So, before telling them to give up and go get the cage out...I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for getting this guy to go to sleep. Please e-mail me direct at jpotash@wildliferescue.com.
Thank you for the help.
