Hi Robyn-
I would say no. If you feed your Russian properly they should get most of the water they need from their food. I still soak mine in very shallow, lukewarm water for about an hour each week though. They like a dry environment and all they'd probably do to a dish is tip it over and make the substrate more moist which would increase the humidity (which Russians don't like). Basically, I would just soak it in very shallow (like 1/4-1/2" deep) water once a week.
