Yes, stars, leopards and several other species. Amikacin is a strong antibiotic, but is safe and effective if used properly! The vets I've worked with recommend .25ml/kg for tortoises, which is a higher dosage than that recommended for snakes. It is important to inject into the anterior end of the tortoise as, according to my vet, drugs injected subcu into the posterior end of a tortoise tend to stay in that end ... something to do with circulatory shunts. In addition you must keep your tortoise well hydrated while treating with amikacin as it can be rough on the kidneys if the animal is dehydrated. My vet has recommended dosing at 72 hour intervals, but I have talked with others that recommend 36 hr. intervals. Do talk to a knowledgeable reptile vet about dosing etc. I've had real good success with supplementing the injected amikacin treatment with baytril drippec into the nostrils ...1-2 drops per nostril per day.
