From the Tortoise Trust booklet on russian torts:
"The absolute critical minimum and maximum temperatures for a safe hibernation are
MAXIMUM: 50F
MINIMUM: 35F
Under no circumstances whatsoever should a hibernating tortoise be subjected to prolonged exposure to temperatures higher or lower than these. Failure to appreciate the importance of this invariably leads to death and injury in hibernation. Blindness due to the eyes quite literally freezing solid is a particularly unpleasant consequence..."
"An ideal temperature for hibernation is 5C or 40F"
