i suppose nearly any drug has the capacity to kill an animal. there is an exotic animal reference guide (i can't remember the tite) and the douglas mader book on reptile medicine at the hospital that both mentioned a certain sensitivity in regards to star (and leopard) tortoises. painful swelling at the site of injection in some animals, depigmentation of the injection site in others. EJ, you're absolutely right in that it is my animal, and that ultimately, it comes down to what i do for him. the tricky part about reptile medicine, it seems, is that there either isn't enough reliable data to work with, or the variation in results is just too wide to be able to generalize anything. my star resents any kind of injections, and rarely eats on days when he recieves any. in a way, i am taking a gamble and i feel awful about it. but truly, thank you for all the frank and honest opinions and information from everyone.
