I've recently been told by a person that helped set up a hingeback ranching facility that Kinixys erosa and homeana like being in wet habitats much more than anybody has ever thought. He said the reason why most homeana and erosa die in captivity is from dehydration. K. homeana would be great to start breeding.

Most likely, you would have to get an imported females. I'm sure there are some captive bread k. homeana out there, but probably none are ready for breeding. Finding a K. homeana that you could adopt through an agency like turtle homes would be and excellent idea

I've got a few links to some sites that describe hingeback breeding on my website. I've also just started a yahoo group to talk about hingebacks, and other topics just like this. You can subscibe to the group by entering your e-mail address in the box at my webpage.

We'd love to have everyone interested in hingebacks join this discussion that is just about hingebacks.

: Hi all been a while since I checked in so I thought I would up date you all on Zeus my Homes Hingrback . His eating habits have not changed at all . He is still eating with gusto and has no sign of any colds etc . As you may know the homes hingeback is said to be shy . Not Zeus . he is fare from shy . When held he comes right out of his shell and allows us me to pet his head .

:
: Zeus is my first Hingeback Tort and he has realy been a pleasure to have around .

: I do have a question I hope someone can answer too . Being Zeus is a healthy male I would like to see about getting him a mate and captive breeding homes hingebacks so local herpers do not rely on imported wild caught torts . Would anyone know a good place to go to get a female and what husbandry requierments need to be met .

:
: Thanks Kevin
