I just got two tiny greek tort hatchlings - should be female, they were incubated to be - and I've been reading up on their diet as compared to the diet of my Ornate boxies.
There seems to be some discrepancy in different books - surely due to differing opinions - about whether it is good to give them vitamins in their food. I am currently mixing in a good (Fluker) reptile calcium/phosphorus mix, but should I also mix in a reptile vitamin? Is it necessary?
Also, what is best for them diet-wise? I've been giving them a mix of romaine/spinach/cucumber/zuchinni/yellow squash/carrots/tomatoes/mushrooms. It's the same mix I give my ornates, but with very little in the way of tomatoes (which I give my ornates) - and no fruit. There are just a few tomatoes in this mix. Is that too much or does it sound about right? The girls are crazy about it, but I don't want to deform their shells or give them kidney stones! They're only about 6 weeks old.
Some of the books are greatly against giving them anything but what they might find in their native habitat - but what is that exactly? Besides grasses and weeds, what else should they be able to find?
Any advice is much appreciated!
Jenny
