Well, I'd like to thank everyone for clarifying what I have not been available to do myself.
Its definitely a guarantee that if you don't know what you have when the tort is small you'll be sure to figure it out when it starts to tear your house apart like our Suka Pie does on a regular basis, but for all intents and purposes and to quell this discussion why not stick with Sulcata and Greek?
Makes things a hell of alot more simple for those who just don't understand, and want to be nitpicky agout simple terminology!
Thanx again!

: Well Niki, it's like this. Common names are not standardized nor should they be. (this is an old argument) The counter argument I use is that are you going to tell a Sudanese that the tortoise in his/her land should be called... No. So, for clarification Linneus(excuse the spelling) came up with the present nomenclature system so there is no confusion. We have enough trouble trying to standardize scientific nomenclature let alone common names. In the US it is accepted and understood the the spur thighed is the Sulcata and the Greek is the graeca or spured thighed (in Europe) to clarify Testudo greaca is one and Geochelone sulcata is the other (as of 11-31-01). No problem there.
