Testudo species are often nicknamed Spur Thighed Tortoises...
Sulcatas are often called African spurred.
African spur thighed would mean a sulcata...they also have spurs on the thighs...
Using nicknames for tortoises like this is bad practice...it causes a lot of confusion.
Example:
Testudo ibera, graeca are both considered to be "spur thighed" because they do have spurs on the thighs....but Testudo hermanni is not, because it has a spur on the tip of the tail, so calling anything Testudo a spur thigh is not correct...

: : She asked how do you tell the difference between the AFRICAN Spur Thighed Tortoise and the Sulcata, which, as Freight said is nothing.
: :
: : : : Same thing!
: : : There is an African Spurred Tortoise which is a sulcata, and then there is a Spur Thighed Tortoise, which is a completely different animal.
: : : Anybody know the latin names for these two?
