It would be best to use Mazuri as an occasional treat as it has too much nutrieny content for it to be regularly fed to a sulcata! It seems best to go with low nutrient, low water content greens mixed with grass/ hay, and even though they will eat tons of food, it is best to limit the amount they eat to avoid pyramiding of the shell. If the weather is good grazing would be a great way for him to eat.
I have had my Sulcata for almost 3 years and when we got him he had really bad pyramids, and keeping him on a diet os leaf+romaine lettuces, collard+turnip greens, escarole/chickory/dandelion etc. mixed with hay, and occasional prickly pear/fruit/zucchini as treats has greatly diminished the pyramids along with being outside and grazing.
We use a 4 foot Reptisun UVB and 2 75 watt basking lights for heat, and he sleeps either somewhere in the house or in an insulated wooden crate.
I've been told that what is borderline neglect for many animals is just about right for a Sulcata as far as feeding is concerned, and although he can be very persistant about getting a snack from us on occasion, he is healthy and appears to be quite content with most of his diet.
Good luck they're alot of fun!!!

: Hello Niki,
: Thanks for the help. Seems that I haven't been far off track so far on my own. I will put in an order for Mazuri next week. My supplier for Mazuri rodent food takes a month to get it to me, so I better order soon.
: By the way, I'm in Wilmington, so we're not that far behind you in temperature. As a matter of fact, he got in some sun time for a couple of hours on Thanksgiving Day.
: Thanks,
: Derek B
