I live in the caribbean (Barbados) and am a 1st-time turtle owner: a baby red foot (called Morris.
I've done some research on the 'net and I feel fairly comfortable with the foods I may feed him/her. However...
I have no set feeding times ... i keep a fresh supply of food and water in his box at all times.
What is the best type of house to put him in? I've been keeping him in a cardboard box (18 inches x 11 inches)with newspaper on the bottom for the last two weeks; & I feel awful about it.
I put the box in a shaded area during the day and bring it into the house at night when it's cooler.
Last question... how important is companionship for a tortoise? I am planning to get another baby redfoot as soon as the pet shop receives them.
Thanks for your time.
