A sulcata really needs a yard for grazing. Grass and weeds are the best and cheapest foods you can provide and the exercise that comes with it will make for healthy tortoises. Also you can grow other foods - hibsicus, optunia, roses, etc. You can buy things like timothy or orchid hay which they might eat. Sometimes if you talk to the local produce person at the store they will save the outer leaves of lettuce and produce that not saleable and give it to you. If you go to www.turtlecafe.com you can buy pasture mix to plant and optunia, plus find lists of foods you can feed your sulcatas.
